'A bright, shining light' | Loved ones grieving after Kennesaw State University student is killed in crash

Aimee Odom was one of several people killed in a crash on I-75 in Bartow County over the weekend.

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — Aimee Odom was a light -- a hard worker with a sweet spirit who would give her all to those around her.

For her best friend's mother, Colleen Gray, Aimee was the girl who helped her daughter get out of her comfort zone and include her in activities. She was there for her daughter whenever she needed it.

The friends met when they were sophomores at Cartersville High School, and despite any potential growing pains that come with maturing into adulthood, the pair had maintained that friendship for around five to six years.

"She was a bright, shining light of a human being," Gray said. "I don't think she ever met anybody she didn't love and care for and would do anything for."

Gray said Aimee was an only child who juggled two jobs while attending Kennesaw State University. The university also confirmed that she was a student. Despite the hectic schedule, Gray said she'd do about anything for her parents.

But her kind soul and giving spirit were taken away from her family and friends. The 21-year-old was one of several people killed in a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 in Bartow County on Sunday evening. Five others were also hurt and taken to area hospitals.

Now, Aimee's family and friends are left grieving the loss of the beautiful young woman.

"It's heartbreaking," Gray stated. "I don't think I know anybody who disliked Aimee."

Gray said Aimee was the type of person who would give the shirt off her back if anyone needed it. Now, she's left to grapple with why a tragedy would occur and how to help her children with losing someone close to them.

"Why this beautiful young lady," she questioned. "And then, as a mom, how can I help my kids? How can I hold it together long enough to help my kids?"

For Gray, she wants people to know the influence Aimee had on people's lives and her legacy.

"Everybody needs to know what an amazing young lady she was and how tragic this loss is to so many people," Gray stated.

As the Cartersville community and those who love Aimee continue to process the loss, those who knew her will forever hold the memories of the kind, giving woman.
