ATHENS, Ga. — The fourth suspect in the shooting death of an Athens toddler was arrested on Friday, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Police said that 18-year-old Dakious Echols, who was wanted since the shooting, was arrested in Brooklyn, New York.

The toddler, Kyron Zarco, and his 9-year-old brother were shot around 5:30 p.m. on March 8 at Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Spring Valley Road while watching a movie inside the home.

His 9-year-old brother and another adult survived the shooting, but Kyron sadly didn't make it.

Echols is facing two counts of murder, four counts of aggravated assault and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The department also added that Echols is now facing a federal charge for unlawful flight.

Kyron Zarco was shot back in March in Athens.

All four suspects are now behind bars after police announced Echols' arrest on Friday. Along with Echols, 22-year-old Desmontrez Mathis was also wanted for months but was arrested last week.

16-year-old Jayden Brown and 17-year-old Julian Omar Cubillos of Lawrenceville were arrested in March, shortly after the deadly shooting.

Several law enforcement agencies collaborated to find Echols, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The 18-year-old is currently in custody in New York but is awaiting extradition to Georgia.

Although the suspects were arrested, Athens-Clarke County Police are still investigating the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Sergeant Black at 762-400-7058 or via email at scott.black@accgov.com.
