Autopsy reveals traces of fentanyl, other drugs in Dunwoody High student’s death

DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office released the autopsy on Sunday.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Editor's note: The video above is about the Incident report details being released in the case. 

The autopsy for a 15-year-old who died due to a medical emergency at Dunwoody High School shows traces of fentanyl and other drugs present in her blood.

DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office released the autopsy on Sunday regarding an incident where a student, Mia Dieguez, was found on the ground "unconscious and not breathing" in May.

According to the report from the office, the following were found in her blood. 

  • 4-ANPP: A substance related to drugs found in her blood.
  • Caffeine: The same content in coffee and energy drinks was in her blood.
  • Naloxone: A drug that can reverse opioid overdoses, like Narcan. 
  • Delta-9 THC: The main ingredient in marijuana, found in her blood.
  • Fentanyl: A very strong painkiller found in her blood.
  • Norfentanyl: A byproduct of fentanyl, also found in her blood.

A police incident report released in May details that school personnel had administered two doses of Narcan due to the possibility of drugs playing a role in the medical emergency.

No other details about the incident were released, nor any new information about the juvenile facing involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct charges in connection to Dieguez's death.
