COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A fourth person has been arrested in connection to a shooting that left two people injured in the parking lot of McEachern High School in February.
According to warrants, a teenage boy was charged with carrying weapons within a school safety zone, loitering/failing to check in at school, and possessing a firearm as a minor. The records also accuse the teen of not only carrying a handgun on school grounds but being involved in a fight and eventually brandishing the gun.
He was arrested on Monday and has been offered a $5,000 bond, according to Cobb County jail records.
11Alive previously reported that a 20-year-old man who was injured in the shooting was also arrested and taken into custody on Feb. 15 for the same charges aside from possessing a firearm as a minor.
That person was initially granted a $35,000 bond, but a Cobb County magistrate judge later revoked it because the suspect "poses a significant threat and danger to persons and property in the community."
The two other arrests were a 17-year-old who faces charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm on school property, as well as a juvenile who police said also opened fire but did not wound anyone. The Cobb County Police Department said these two suspects were students at the high school.
The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the school parking lot along New MacLand Road in Powder Springs. It sparked a large police presence surrounding the school, and the school was placed on a brief Code Red lockdown until law enforcement authorities gave the all-clear.
11Alive reached out to see if the fourth suspect was a student at the school and is awaiting a response.
