EAST POINT, Ga. — Today, the new city office has officially opened for business. Construction took nearly 20 months since the initial groundbreaking on the once empty lot.
The building sits in the heart of Downtown East Point and is just one of the many revitalization efforts that the city plans to put in effect. Mayor Deana Ingraham calls the entire process a “labor of love” that she hopes the community will feel welcome to utilize.
Local salon owner of Community Kutz & Kurls, Jaquis Raquel says she remembers looking across the street seeing nothing but an empty lot full of dirt.
“Seeing all the developments makes me excited,” said Raquel.
She hopes that it revitalized the area and bring in new customers, a perspective that Raquel and East Point Mayor, Deana Holiday Ingraham both shared.
"If we want people to invest in East Point, we have to show them that we are willing to invest in ourselves and I think this building shows that,” says Ingraham.
The new city office space cost nearly $17 million to build. The new building opens to the community today for more information about upcoming activities visit City of East Point.
