Atlanta Airport delays and cancellations with Helene on the horizon | Tracker

11Alive will be tracking delays and cancelations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

ATLANTA — Hurricane Helene will be strengthening throughout Thursday over the Gulf of Mexico as it heads toward a landfall in the evening and then toward Atlanta after midnight into the early morning hours of Friday.

Below, we'll be tracking delays and cancellations as they're updated at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with Helene on the way. Keep in mind that the impact on air travel may not be as significant as you think. The brunt of the storm will arrive in metro Atlanta and north Georgia during overnight hours when flights generally aren't taking off or landing here.

Helene is about to undergo rapid intensification leading up to landfall late Thursday near Apalachicola. Helene is currently producing sustained winds of 90 mph with stronger gusts as it moves NNE at 12 mph.

Hurricane Helene is forecast to quickly intensify as it moves through the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico, becoming a major hurricane.  It will make landfall late Thursday along Florida's Big Bend region, not far from Apalachicola. In anticipation of the storm's impacts, Georgia's governor issued a State of Emergency to free up resources.
