Man shot in the jaw near Gainesville homeless camp

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Investigators say they have a suspect in custody after a man was shot in the face Sunday night.

It happened around 10 p.m. near GA 13/Atlanta Highway and Westside Drive near a homeless camp, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office. 

Authorities said the victim, a man in his 40s, was shot once in the jaw; bystanders helped the victim get to a gas station at the corner of Pearl Nix Parkway and GA 369/Browns Bridge Road where a call was placed to 911.

First responders rushed the man to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment. He remains in critical condition.

Right now, the sheriff’s office said its investigation is active and in its initial stages. Authorities took the suspect, 41-year-old Necko Romane Jackson, into custody at around 11 a.m., Monday. He's being charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

He is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond. 

The case is still under investigation.
