‘Because Mom’ opens new HQ in downtown Cumming

A popular networking group for women now has a brick and mortar location that offers space to work and relax.

CUMMING, Ga. — In November of 2017, Caroline Ryan created an online group called Because Mom. It catered to local women, offering opportunities to network with each other.

“I was going through a really rough time with anxiety and depression,” Ryan said. “I had four miscarriages, and I was in a really lonely place. I was a part of other mom groups in the area, but they were not the nicest. We are, as women, very judgmental people. So I decided to jump on board and try to create something different.”

The group, she said, now has nearly 5,000 members with more than 1,300 still pending.

“The more the merrier, and we love all of the North Atlanta people and ladies that come out to our events,” Ryan said. “We just have so much to offer. That's kind of how we grew into this space.”

The new space was originally going to be used by Ryan and her team only, Ryan said. But they decided to rent it out to the public.

“We have free Wi-Fi,” Ryan said. “We will have free coffee. Every Friday, we will be supporting a local coffee shop.”

The space, which is located at 110 Samaritan Drive, Suite 211 in Cumming, has a seating area in the front that will be used as a co-workspace. There’s also a large back room that can be used for meetings or private events. The space can be rented out on a monthly, weekly, or hourly basis.

“We didn't really think it would come along so soon, but it fell into our lap and the doors are continuing to open for us,” Jessica Lusk, event coordinator for Because Mom, said. “This place has become so much more than we could have imagined, even in the short time that we've had it open. The overwhelming positivity and response from the community has been great.”

Ryan said children are welcome in the space, but only at certain times.

“Right now, because we will be offering co-working space, we want it a little bit quieter,” she said. “On the weekends, we will be doing Mommy and Me classes, painting or cookie decorating, things like that.”

The grand opening and open house for the new space will be on Saturday, March 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. It will then be open to the public starting on Monday, March 16.
