Construction on Peachtree Corners' pedestrian bridge begins

Project expected to take 14 to 16 months to complete.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, Ga. — Concrete barricades are now lining the north and southbound lanes of Peachtree Parkway, as crews begin construction on the Peachtree Corners' pedestrian bridge.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has officially approved the permit necessary for Peachtree Corners to begin construction. Greg Ramsey, Public Works Director for the city of Peachtree Corners' says construction is expected to be complete by 16 months.

"The pedestrian bridge is intended to create connectivity to the west side and east side of the city...as well, as to provide safe access for people that are shopping or exercising in the area," says Ramsey.

Traffic interruptions are not expected until next spring when the bridge's structural features are installed. Ramsey says that drivers and residents will be informed a head of time of any anticipated lane closures.

Plans for the bridge were announced in January of 2016.
