STEINHATCHEE, Fla. — Hurricane Helene is due to make landfall on Thursday evening as a major storm, possibly even as strong as a Category 4 hurricane.
The landfall is expected in the Big Bend region of Florida, where Hurricane Debby also made landfall a little less than two months ago.

Helene is about to undergo rapid intensification leading up to landfall late Thursday near Apalachicola. Helene is currently producing sustained winds of 90 mph with stronger gusts as it moves NNE at 12 mph.
Hurricane Helene is forecast to quickly intensify as it moves through the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico, becoming a major hurricane. It will make landfall late Thursday along Florida's Big Bend region, not far from Apalachicola. In anticipation of the storm's impacts, Georgia's governor issued a State of Emergency to free up resources.
