Helene made its way into Georgia early Friday morning and has brought heavy rain to metro Atlanta.

ATLANTA — Tropical Storm Helene, formally a hurricane, crossed into Georgia early Friday and has been moving north, bringing heavy rains and causing major flooding issues in metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Already, a little after 2:30 a.m., Sandy Springs residents near Nancy Creek were ordered to evacuate due to flooding.

Helene underwent rapid intensification leading up to landfall late Thursday around 11:30 p.m. near Apalachicola. It crossed into Georgia still as a hurricane before being downgraded to a tropical storm Friday, after the 5 a.m. advisory.
