ATLANTA — Atlanta's heat took down a 93-year-old record Friday.
We reached 83 this afternoon at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. This breaks the previous record high of 82, set both on October 25 of 1931 and 1940.
The 11Alive Weather Impact team is also forecasting near-record warmth for the first half of the weekend as well.
Saturday's forecast high is 84. If we exceed that, we could tie the daily record of 85. That record was set more recently in 2010.
This string of days with temperatures 10+ degrees above normal will end on Sunday, as a cooler pattern and east wind sets in.
The month of October has been no stranger to 80-degree days in Atlanta. The capital of the Peach State has had 13 days at or above 80 through Friday, October 25. We'll finish the month with nearly half of the days at or above 80.
The month has also been completely rain-free. Atlanta has now had 26 straight days without rain.
