Atlanta could break an 84-year-old record on Friday

Unseasonably warm weather is taking us into the last weekend of October

ATLANTA — Unseasonably warm weather has brought the 80s to north Georgia this week. And the hottest part of the day is getting hotter on Friday and Saturday.

The 11Alive Weather Impact team is forecasting a record-breaking high temperature on Friday afternoon and near-record heat on Saturday.

Friday's forecast high is 83. If we hit that, it will break the previous record of 82. That was set 84 years ago, in 1940!

Saturday's forecast high is 84. If we exceed that, we could tie the daily record of 85. That record was set more recently in 2010.

This string of days with temperatures 10+ degrees above normal will end on Sunday, as a cooler pattern and east wind sets in.

The month of October has been no stranger to 80-degree days in Atlanta. The capital of the Peach State has had 12 days at or above 80 through Thursday, Oct. 24. We'll finish the month with nearly half of the days at or above 80.

The month has also been completely rain-free. Atlanta has now had 24 straight days without rain
