Georgia takes center stage in final stretch of presidential election

Campaign strategies reveal both campaigns' focus on Georgia's 16 electoral votes

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — At a rally in Cobb County Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump urged his supporters to "get out and vote."

The rally came on the first day of early voting in Georgia and marked what was at least his third visit to the state in just a few weeks.

As the race for the White House enters the final stretch, where candidates choose to spend their time is an indicator of which states each campaign believes will be vital to their path to success.

Both Trump and Vice President Harris are making it clear they think the path to the presidency runs through Georgia.

Since September 24, Trump has been in Georgia at least twice leading up to his Tuesday Cobb County rally. His running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, has visited the state repeatedly as well over a similar timespan.

The Democratic ticket has been making similar swings through the Peach State.

Vice President Harris visited Georgia twice in September. Her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, campaigned here as well.

At his Tuesday night rally, Trump criticized Harris' record as vice president and touted his economic proposals.

"Everywhere you look, under Kamala Harris, the American standard of living is in freefall," he said.

"With your vote, we will create millions of new great-paying jobs, wages will soar, your taxes are going to fall," Trump added. "Your net worth will skyrocket."

Harris disputed that at a rally of her own just a day earlier in Pennsylvania.

"Please do check out the Wall Street Journal or Goldman Sachs or the sixteen Nobel Laureates or Moody's who have all analyzed the plans and said mine will strengthen the economy, his will make it weaker," she said.

"Donald Trump, I think in our collective opinion, certainly mine, is an unserious man," Harris added. "But the consequences of him ever being president again are brutally serious."

More campaign stops are expected in the closing days of this election.

Trump is scheduled to visit Georgia again next week. Harris, meanwhile, is expected to attend a campaign rally in Atlanta on Saturday.
