PARIS, France — Not only did this champion and former Bulldog come out of the Olympics with two medals, but she also earned a history-making title, jumping into the record books.
Jasmine Moore won bronze in the women's triple jump on Saturday with a 14.67m jump, making her the first U.S. woman to win a medal in the triple jump. And then on Thursday, Moore captured the bronze once again by completing her 6.96m jump, placing her name in the history books in Paris.
NBC shared she's the second woman in Olympic to medal in both the triple jump and long jump at the same Games. The Associated Press reported back in July that she was the first U.S. woman to qualify for triple the jump and long jump.
Moore spoke with 11Alive's Cheryl Preheim in Paris on Friday, sharing her pride for her accomplishments.
"I was just overjoyed and so excited and then to come here and execute and bring home two medals. I'm just still in awe. I'm so proud of myself, all my hard work and I'm just so grateful," she said.
Moore added that having her family this time around really encouraged her to do her best in the sport. She competed in the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021, where her jump of 14.39m was also top 10 in the world that year.
"In Tokyo, we didn't have our family, so to finally have all my support, my family, my friends here, everyone. I just felt so loved, and then the crowd was insane, so I was so thankful that I got to be out there for days. Last night, I was like, I really want to soak this in, and I was just so grateful that I got to perform in front of that crowd one last time."
She explained the process of competing in two Olympic track and field events and its difficulties.
"It's a struggle sometimes in managing them both. I think in prelims, I was like 'oh crap, how do I long jump again? It's been a minute.' I hadn't long jumped in like a week and a half, two weeks, so it's kind of getting the rust off and just getting ready for finals and long jump to try to manage them both."
She added that she's not done just yet with her records. She hopes to get the gold in both events in the future. During her interview, she gave a shout out to the gators after she transferred to the University of Florida following her run at UGA.
"I had Christian Taylor and Will Clay doing the gator chomp on the podium that was on my vision board for this year. So hopefully I will get to recreate that tonight. That was the main goal and just to keep doing both events and eventually get a gold."
